sE RT1 Ribbon Tube

The RT1 is probably one of the best ribbon tube microphones. Unlike other ribbon mics, in which you have to really push the gain on the pre-amp to get the output up, the RT1 has its own power supply. Thus, it has plenty of gain to print on tape directly!

I find it to be a very smooth microphone with the warmth of the tube, making it a real vintage piece right out of the box. It’s absolutely fantastic on electric guitar cabinets, in any shape or size. Many times I record two amps at a time through the Framptone Amp Switcher, using the RT1 on a Soldano Reverb-O-Sonic four-by-twelve and a Sennheiser 421 on a Fender Showman four-by-twelve cabinet. For a clean-sounding strat tone, this microphone is the one. It adds a nice silky sheen to the recording without coloring the tone of the source. It’s a real tone-capturing microphone for guitars!
